CRAU explanation:

Louis spent most of a year in The City ([personal profile] citycenter), a sprawling and eerily empty world. This will give him a mild advantage when it comes to being whisked away into another universe, especially since it's his own decision this time.

His most significant developments were interpersonal. Louis is an introvert by nature, but being a vampire turned him into a borderline hermit: he has spent nearly his entire life intentionally closing himself off from making any meaningful connections with human beings due to his complex feelings of guilt regarding his vampirism. But in the City, Louis was finally forced to give up his usual strategy of disappearing into a crowd and observing humanity from a quiet and anonymous distance. For the first time, he felt like a member of a community rather than an outsider doomed to self-exile.

Also, due to the City providing bottled blood (disgusting but effective), Louis could exist without having to kill humans. Though he always knew that it was an imperfect and temporary solution, it allowed him to experience what life would be like without that constant, crushing guilt, and to shed some of his deep pessimism about the possibility of changing.

Louis' time in the City also brought him much closer to his vampire maker, Lestat, and the two fell into an intense and very public romance. They bonded quite deeply and actually managed (through tears and occasional shouting) to work through some of their painful history together, and began to explore aspects of intimacy that Louis had never experienced before. Louis will miss him so so much and be so so annoying about it, but thankfully it has given him enough actual experience that no one can accuse him of being a blushing virgin.

QUESTIONNAIRE

Is your character willing to have sex and able to give informed consent?

Yes.

What is the wish your character made? Why did they make it?

Louis' wish is to find a way for himself and his kind to be part of the world without feeding on it — to belong without harming, something that the vampire condition rarely allows.

Louis never truly wishes to stop being a vampire as much as he wishes to stop hating himself for being one. His suffering doesn’t come from immortality, but from the moral weight of it. He wants to find a way to exist without the guilt of killing, and to no longer feel that his nature automatically makes him damned.

How will your character initially react to Decadia's setting?

World-weary sighs at the overwhelming opulence and hedonism on display. Louis likes to think of himself as above the need for creature comforts, and would insist that he has no interest in Decadia's particular brand of luxury. However, at least some of that is performative self-punishment: in short, he believes he doesn't deserve nice things. If someone forces those nice things upon him, though…

He will love the library and the opportunity to learn about other worlds and other cultures, and he will be quietly hoping to make a handful of friends to lean on for support in all this. He will want to fulfill his contract, as he takes such things quite seriously, but he also needs to feel some connection with someone before he actually feels that spark of desire.

He also intends to do his very best to ignore being watched, because he is naturally a rather private person; however, his life story was published as a paperback novel in his own world, so he actually has a surprising amount of experience with everybody knowing his agonizing and embarrassing personal business. Just try not to think about it!

What are you most interested in doing with your character in Decadia?

I want Louis to make friends, and I want to explore his relationship with his vampirism and blood-drinking! He spent most of the twentieth century alone, living sadly and quietly in San Francisco, observing humanity from his detached point of view and avoiding other vampires who by and large wanted him dead. Though he has begun to come out of his shell, he is still unaccustomed to being a part of something, much less having people who care about him and who he cares about in return.

His CRAU development has very, very slowly begun to change his dismal outlook on feeding, but without his emotional support husband around, he will be somewhat reluctant to attempt consensual sexy blood-drinking. But a man has to eat! Eventually, perhaps he can come to see himself as something more than just a killer and a parasite. He just has a lot of hangups about his vampirism being sexualized when it's also the thing that he feels the most guilt about! Obviously Decadia is the ideal setting to force him to confront that.

Canonically, vampires do not feel sexual attraction the way that humans do; the act of drinking blood is the greatest act of intimacy possible for their kind. The bite of a vampire is intoxicatingly pleasurable for the victim, and often sexually arousing. Some vampires will play with their food, even growing close to mortals over time. Louis… does not. He has a guilt-ridden and conflicted relationship with his own vampire nature, and lacks the self-control to keep himself from killing his victims.

What aspect of sex appeals to your character the most?

Love and connection and intimacy. :c Louis is terribly sad and terribly poetic, and he has the heart of a romantic. He doesn't want to have sex, he wants to make love. He is aware that this place will be a challenge in that regard, and he is not especially looking forward to taking anyone to bed right away.

Luckily, he can still bite people, right? As stated above, feeding on strangers is the form of intimacy that Louis is the most familiar with, but he is not accustomed to having actual conversations about it, nor to leaving his victims alive enough to have pillow talk afterward. In the City, he and Lestat discussed the possibility of eventually taking a willing victim to bed (partly to teach Louis some restraint re: feeding and partly just for fun) but things never quite got to that point in reality. As such, Louis is in the somewhat awkward position of having accepted the idea of consensual sexy blood drinking without actually crossing that line for himself or quite knowing how to go about it. And with his lack of self-control, he will need to research ways to make sure that he won't accidentally harm whoever he's biting— he can't just have a fun little nibble and go about his business!

Louis is perpetually self-contradictory, so of course the things that appeal to him most about sex (emotional intimacy and blood sharing) are also the things he's most reluctant to indulge in.

What kinks does your character have, known or unknown to them? Why do they have those particular kinks?

Louis is still too overwhelmed by the novel experience of ✨romantic vanilla lovemaking✨ to have any of his own kinks that he's aware of. Other than the blood kink inherent to all vampires, of course. And he was keen on the idea of sharing a human with his vampire husband.

Restraint and overindulgence go hand in hand for Louis. With feeding, he waits until the thirst for blood becomes too painful to resist, and then drinks too deeply to ever possibly stop himself. Though he does not have the sexual experience to realize it, he would be very into edging and very into overstimulation. Pain is also fun, since he heals quickly— but he's squeamish about inflicting it.

Loss of control would also appeal to his guilt complex: it's easier to accept pleasure when he can tell himself that it isn't his choice. This one is more complicated, because Louis also has issues with being manipulated… but let's just say his CNC kink is waiting to be discovered.
